Better access to beds at Gawler Hospital

Health and Welfare Minister Stephen Wade said a model of care has been extended to 16 additional inpatient beds, providing greater flexibility for patients requiring treatment and care.

“We know there is an increased demand for health services in Gawler and surrounding communities, and improving access to inpatient beds at Gawler Hospital gives patients greater options. for the health care they need, ”said Minister Wade.

“This means that patients in the region can be admitted to an additional 16 beds at Gawler Hospital, now 32 beds in total, without the need for admission by a local GP.

“It also allows inpatients from other regional and metropolitan hospitals to continue their care at Gawler Hospital, which will help reduce demand in our metropolitan hospitals and improve flow through the healthcare system.

“By doubling the number of beds available through this model at Gawler Hospital, we are helping to relieve pressure on our hospitals and improve access to health services to better support the health and well-being of all. South Australians. “

Barossa Hills Fleurieu Local Health Network Acting CEO Kylie Williams said the model of care is being delivered in partnership with GP Inc, which plays an important role in supporting inpatient service delivery in the community.

“The transition from additional beds to this model of care will streamline the admission process and will significantly help manage demand and accommodate patients who do not have a local general practitioner,” Ms. Williams said.

“Currently, patients can still be admitted by a local general practitioner, and we encourage patients to speak with our staff for more information about their options for admission as an inpatient.

“We thank the local GPs for their continued commitment to providing these important health services to the community and helping us provide the best possible care to patients in the community.”
